Put Them First Academy was formed in March 2014 by founding members Shanell Washington and Lorna Washington. PTF Academy is a subsidiary of Put Them First Inc, a Florida corporation. Our purpose is to provide 24 hour child care services for the residents of Lee County. PTF Academy's mission is provide families with an uncompromising early education program done in a spirit of Excellence. Our 2,400 square foot indoor facility is comprised of 4 classrooms customized for each age group. The large playground area enriches your child's experience with outdoor activities that will assist in their development. Our motto is "Putting the needs of your family FIRST" Shanell Washington - Director - Shanell holds national, state and local early childhood certification and VPK certified. She is currently pursing her Bachelor's degree in Early Education. She brings with her 6 years teaching experience in the public and private sector working in the class room as a Teacher and in administration as a School Director. Most recently she worked for The Goddard School, a nationally and internationally recognized early childhood learning school.
Lorna Washington - Manager - Lorna is a graduate of Barry University and holds a Bachelor's degree in Professional (Business) Studies. She has work in senior management for over 30 years.; her career spans major organizations; Macy's, Robb & Stucky Inc, Dex Media and most recently The News-Press Media Group. Her experience and strong credentials lies in the areas of leadership, purchasing & acquisitions, marketing, advertising, public relations and sales.
She volunteers her time with various community organizations; Accelerated Learning Solutions Board President 2011 - current, Women United For Women Vice President 2013 - current, Dunbar Festival Committee Treasurer 2011 - 2013, Healthy Start Coalition of SW Florida Board Member 2009 - 2012, Ft Myers Jr Firecats Volunteer 2001 - 2005
Teachers and Staff - Put Them First Academy is licensed by the State of Florida Department of Children and Families. Our staff comprised of (2) TWO Certified Directors who are experienced, trained and hold strong credentials in area of their expertise. Our philosophy is to provide every child with the opportunity to grow intellectual, social and emotional.
Crystal Johnson - Assistant Director - Crystal comes with over 10 years experience working in the child care industry. She has worked for for-profit, non-profit centers and the Lee County School District.. Her duties includes working with the staff on the daily basis ensuring that each child's educational and social needs are met. These duties includes ensuring that the center abides to the child care rules and regulations established by the State of Florida Department of Child & Families, Early Learning Coalition of SW Florida and the USDA Child Care Food Program..
Annette Powell - Infant Teacher - Annette comes with over 20 years of experience working with children and adults with disabilities. She has worked in the private sector and has provided professional support to individuals learning to live, learn and work in their communities. Her daily duties are to provide our infants ages 1 month to 1 year with bottle feeding, playtime, motor and language skills.
Mekia Hall - One Year & Two Old Teacher - Mekia has experience working with children in several states. She is a loving, kinds, sweet spoken teacher who works well with with our active "ones" Her favorite time of the day is during centers and activities time. Mekia takes the time to meet each child's individual needs in the classroom while providing an awesome family environment.
Kanisha Glover " Ms Kaye" - Three Year Old & VPK Teacher - Ms Kaye enjoys working with children, her favorite group are the school age students. During the earlier part of the day, she spends her time with the 3 year olds & VPK students assisting Ms Shanell. In they afternoon, she is the lead teacher for the school age students who challenge her each day with homework assignments, new activities, building new friendships and gaining independence. She knows what it takes to give them all the love, attention and discipline they need each day. Ms Kaye is a recent graduate of Job Corps. Her training includes both early learning and nursing assistance. She is currently working towards her Child Development Associate (CDA)
Juanika Jackson- Ms "Jay" , as she is affectionately called by our kids and parents. Brings the youthfulness to the center. She ensures that our meals are prepared each day, the center remains clean and tidy. She is very versatile, working in various areas when and where need each day from paperwork, to custodial, to prepping meals. She is a great team member who assists the center transition from morning to afternoon. Ms Jay is the the process of obtaining her Early Childhood Certification from FMIT.
